Casting for the music video
Daniel Woodburn, 17 y/o, no previous acting experience. Casted as poor character "Steve", I wanted the characters to be young adults so Daniel fit the bill. He also helps me achieve my goal of appealing to more than just one social group, he brings diversity to the music video. Also, the stereotype is that people of colour are less likely to be wealthy, more likely to be in poverty.

Lucy O'Donnell, 18 y/o, no previous acting experience. I cast Lucy as the rich character "Heather" because its a stereotype that white people are mostly richer than people of colour.

moodboard for my music video
TASK 3 - Write an introduction to the task. This needs to explain what you're going do... in this case it needs to be along the lines of:
"In this task I'll explore different types of images, fonts and colours to use in my......... . I shall be looking at different connotations and how these affect the way my target audience might view my product. By creating this mood board I will also be exploring creative ways of how to present my work".
In my moodboard I'll put ideas of certain shots i want to use in my music video (close ups, long shots etc) so i have a reference for what i want my music video to look like. I'll have pictures of the location i am using and I will test different fonts for my title card. This is so all my ideas and themes are shown clearly in the same place.
camera shots brainstorming
What are you testing?
- Photography: framing, composition.
- Typography: size, colour, serif/sans serif.
- Video: framing, composition, movement.
- Editing techniques: transitions, effects like slow motion, etc.
Make certain shots slow motion, introducing the characters, establishing shot.
Use a split screen and other techniques to switch between the two characters (show the differences).
Statement of Intent
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
PRODUCT 1 (MUSIC VIDEO)
Industry
Audience
My music video will appeal to culturally sophisticated 16-25 year olds by using romance as my main genre. The Romance genre will be conveyed by a common romantic setting - a park or field. Also many tropes commonly found in romance stories such as the two protagonists crossing paths will be heavily featured in the music video. This will appeal to my target audience as it is a relatable and emotive topic.
Representation
PRODUCT 1 (MUSIC VIDEO)
Media Language
In my first product (music video)
I will use all different types of camera shots, close ups, long shots, wide
shots. The whole music video will be filmed through a hand held camera which
does create a more authentic and true feel, often times seeming like a POV shot
as though the audience is looking through the characters eyes. Many creative
transitions will be used to add depth and make the music video far more
interesting to watch. The narrative is simply put, a love story. Two characters
from opposite backgrounds cross paths until the final scene shows them getting
together, this means that my music video must include codes and conventions of the
romance genre.
Industry
I intend to use industry in my product by making intertextual links to the current dance music community and referencing recent dance music videos. My music video is very similar to ideas presented in Major Lazer's music videos, as well as a music video from Charlie Puth. My music video narrative consists of two characters from different backgrounds crossing paths and falling in love, which is a trope commonly seen in Dance music.

Representation
In
my music video, I have featured two different characters that fall into six
separate social categories. Daniel Woodburn plays the male character (Steve),
he is a person of colour and represents the working class social class. Lucy
O'Donnell plays the female character (Heather), she is white and is middle
class. This means there is representation for two genders, two races and two
social backgrounds. I have decided to have a person of colour play the role of
the boy from the working class background to create a mirror image of society
and the inequality of race and poverty in the UK.
Product 2: Website
I intend to base my website heavily on the theme of clouds that I have chosen to run throughout my products. The use of bright blue colours in my website will add to the dance/EDM brand. I will use the font Pacifica Condensed as it is a very modern and niche font that I believe will accentuate the dance identity of my products, linking to the brief and enticing the target audience (culturally sophisticated 16-25 year olds). Dance artists commonly feature bright, bold colours alongside blocky, niche fonts, so I intend to follow this theme. I will use the actors in my music video as my "dance artists", this allows me to keep the representation of different genders and races.
I have chosen to use imagery of clouds as my theme throughout my products. I intend to open my music video with a still shot of clouds with the artists name in the foreground, this reinforces the brand identity of the artists. Clouds will be heavily featured in my website, they will be used as the background for the home page, and included in an image of the single. Using reoccurring imagery of clouds on my website, as well as in my music video, will further reinforce the artists brand identity. I will also be using the same people who will star in my music videos as the artists so there will be convergence shared between the products.

brief questions
- What brief did you choose? State the two products you're required to produce.
- What are the minimum requirements for your chosen productions?
- What is the target audience as prescribed in the brief?
- What is your target audience for the products you're creating? (this needs to link to the audience profiling post)
I chose to do a music video, i need to create a 3 minute long music video with a narrative, to a dance track and a website that promotes the artist of the music video.
The music video needs to be at least 3 minutes long for a fictional artist, it must appeal to an audience of 16 - 25 year olds (culturally sophisticated). The video must contain at least two characters that represent two different social classes and a title card that shows the artists name and song title.
The website must contain some of the artists branding that is also seen in the music video, i have to use a minimum of two original images that promote the artist and link to the branding. There should also be working links to pages about the artist and a range of different media techniques.
The target audience in the brief is 16-25 year olds that are part of the AB social categories and are "culturally sophisticated".
MY target audience will be mostly 17-25 year olds as this is the age that responded to my audience survey, the majority of people who answered the survey were female so most of the feedback has come from women, this may mean that when i make my music video based on the feedback i received, it would appeal more to females than males. 7 white respondents, 3 mixed raced respondents - my current target audience is mainly white people however my male character is mixed race so there is no representation for white people currently.
